Nová Ves nad Žitavou: Pilgrimage, Architecture and Landscape

Nová Ves nad Žitavou offers the Studnička pilgrimage site, historic buildings, a waterscape and a marked cycling route. Studnička is located in the western part of the municipality between the Konopnice and Chrástočky fields.

Culture and Faith

In the quiet valley of the Drevenica, the Studnička pilgrimage site has featured a stone altar with a statue since the time of the Marian apparitions in Lourdes in 1858. The site also includes a Stations of the Cross built in 1993. Studnička is a consecrated sacred site where Holy Masses and weddings can be celebrated. The pilgrimage days at Studnička are held every year on the Feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen, on 22 August.

At the Studnička pilgrimage site, the Turecký most crosses the Drevenica stream. The bridge is a unique architectural landmark dating from the 15th century. The historic buildings of Nová Ves nad Žitavou also include the Baroque manor house at the crossroads, built by Count Jozef Berchtold at the beginning of the 18th century. The Neoclassical manor house of the Klobušický family in Nová Ves nad Žitavou was built in 1872 and was surrounded by a park.

Church

The Church of Saint Thomas the Apostle in Nová Ves nad Žitavou is a Baroque-Classical church built in 1789. Its main altar is a masonry Classical work from the first half of the 19th century. It bears a painting of Saint Thomas dating from the mid-19th century.

Nature and Water

Novoveský Park is designated as a protected area. There is also a 7-hectare water reservoir near Nová Ves nad Žitavou that serves as a fishing area. Its bottom is slightly irregular and covered with sediment deposits. The water depth ranges from 100 to 200 cm. The water contains carp, zander, grass carp, pike, catfish, crucian carp and bream.

The green-marked cycling route 5136 connects Slepčany, Malé Chyndice, Veľké Chyndice and Nová Ves nad Žitavou. In Slepčany, it begins at a junction with the red long-distance cycling route 045, the Požitavská cyklomagistrála.
