Kolačno between the Tríbeč Mountains and Ponitrie

Kolačno lies in the northern part of the Tríbeč Mountains, at the transition to the Hornonitrianska kotlina basin.

Nature

Part of the Kolačno municipal area belongs to the Ponitrie Protected Landscape Area. Protection Level II applies there. Protected features include preserved forest complexes on Veľký Vracov and Michalov vrch, as well as morphological and relief-related features and remnants of thermophilous flora. The wooded parts of Kolačno comprise hornbeam, oak, oak-beech, and high-quality coniferous forests.

The natural area also includes two locally classified wetlands. The “Rybník s lužným lesom pri Kolačne” wetland is located in Kolačno and covers 70,000 square metres. Mišove jarky is another locally classified wetland located in Kolačno, with an area of 53,000 square metres.

History and Culture

The first written mention of Kolačno dates from 1 June 1293 and refers to the place as “terra Kolechna”. The name itself also points to an older stage of the language: Kolačno is associated with the medieval dialect word “kolešňa”. This referred to a place away from the mother settlement with temporary hay barns and animal pens.

A defining building in Kolačno is the reconstructed Roman Catholic Church of Saint Joseph the Worker. The first chapel in Kolačno was consecrated on 19 March 1912. In the municipal museum, you can see a living room from the 1920s, a historic fire engine, tools for producing and processing flax, and wedding attire. The Kolačno Municipal Museum can be visited by prior arrangement.

In Ondrášová, a district of Kolačno, there is a monument to those who fell in the Slovak National Uprising, erected in 1973.

Trails and Views

The green cycle route 5105 leads to the Vrchhora saddle. The ruins of the Kostol sv. Michala church and the Kaplnka sv. Jána Nepomúckeho chapel are located there. A viewpoint can be reached from Vrchhora in approximately 15 minutes on foot.

Michalov hrad can be reached from Ondrášová by bus from Partizánske via Veľké Uherce and Kolačno to the terminus in Ondrášová.

Sports and Events

Kolačno’s multifunctional sports field has artificial turf and is intended for recreational sports such as tennis, volleyball, mini-football, basketball, streetball, Nohejbal, badminton, and similar activities.

A competition for German Shepherds for the Pohár SNP trophy, organised by the Kynologický Klub Kolačno, is held regularly in Kolačno. The competition has already taken place for the 21st time.

Transport

Road III/51101 runs through Veľké Uherce, Kolačno, and Ondrášová, connecting the places to the supraregional and regional transport network. Bus services operated by SAD Prievidza connect Kolačno with Partizánske, Nováky, and the neighbouring municipalities.
