Culture

The Lubená folklore group performs traditional songs, dances and customs. The Jozef-Strečanský commemorative event is also held annually in Poluvsie in honour of this collector and folklorist.

At the “V poluskej dedine” folklore festival, visitors can take part in a dance school and try traditional crafts in creative workshops. The programme also includes regional specialities prepared by local housewives. In Poluvsie, the outdoor adventure and educational game called “Michalov poklad” was developed as part of Michal’s annual project.

Nature

Together with the neighbouring municipalities, Poluvsie lies in the Upper Nitra Basin and is surrounded by mountain ranges and mountains on almost all sides. The Nitra flows through the municipal area. The smaller Lubená stream, which comes from Zadný diel mountain, also flows through the municipal area.

Fishing takes place in the old riverbed of the Nitra in Poluvsie, and the area is visited by anglers relatively frequently. The local marsh is a wetland biotope with various, in some cases rare, plant species and frogs. It is also used for fishing and, in winter, as an ice hockey area.

History

The “Števke” dwelling house has been preserved as a national cultural monument. It is a simple through-passage house type with a lowered attic that was used to store grain or goods sensitive to moisture. The façade features a row of small windows aligned axially with the windows of the living floor.

The church in Poluvsie has been preserved as a national cultural monument on the site of an earlier 4 × 4-metre Marian chapel. The altar from the former chapel has been preserved inside the church.

Transport

Road I/64 (Komárno–Nitra–Prievidza–Žilina) connects Poluvsie to the higher-level transport network. It connects the Ponitrie region with northern Slovakia, the Turiec region and the upper Váh area.
