Lazy pod Makytou lies at the foot and on the slopes of the Javorníky Mountains and stretches for 14 km along the Biela voda valley, from Lúky to the Czech-Moravian border. Part of the municipality lies within the Kysuce Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Kysuce), which also includes the Čertov Nature Reserve. This protected area provides a habitat for brown bears, Eurasian lynxes and wolves. Its habitats include beech and beech-fir flowering forests, ravine forests with linden and maple trees, and springs in the hilly landscape.

Culture
The character and history of Lazy pod Makytou are reflected in several preserved landmarks. The Roman Catholic Church of the Virgin Mary dates from 1801 and preserves bells from 1721 that came from an earlier wooden church. The Evangelical church was built in 1846–1859 on the site of an older Toleration church and features elements of Neo-Romanesque architecture. It contains a baptismal font from 1801 and a bell from 1802.
Lazy pod Makytou has preserved its Kopaničiarsky character for centuries. It is associated with cattle and sheep breeding as well as agriculture. The House of History displays traditional costumes, household vessels, a spinning wheel, a loom, old skis, flails and historical photographs. The Mladoňov war memorial is a national cultural monument.
The Mladoňov educational trail deals with the burning of the Mladoňov settlement by fascists during the Second World War. Lazy pod Makytou also hosts the recitation competition “Kýčerského spievanky” in memory of the poet Pavol Kokeš-Kýčerský.
