Lednica combines protected landscapes, marked trails and a distinctive local cultural history. The municipality lies within the Biele Karpaty Protected Landscape Area. As a result, the surrounding area brings together natural spaces, longer trails and historical monuments that shape the character of the place in different ways.

Nature

Lednica is home to the PR Lednické bradlo nature reserve. It covers 14.28 ha and is protected under Level IV protection. The protected habitat includes xerothermic flora, including the early-flowering carnation (Dianthus praecox) and nine orchid species. The PP Lednické skalky natural monument is also located in Lednica. It covers 2.71 ha, is likewise protected under Level IV protection and consists of extensively used pastures on a small rocky cliff above Lednica.

Trails and Winter

The hiking trail network in Lednica includes trails marked in blue, green and yellow. One longer option is the Turistický chodník okolo Lednice, which takes about four hours. For cycling, there is a route to Mount Žrnová that is approximately 12 km long. Lednica also offers opportunities for winter tourism thanks to a local ski lift. The information on trail markings, duration and length makes the different ways of getting around the area concrete without reducing the possible forms of a stay to just one.

Culture

The local cultural heritage includes the Lednický kroj, a traditional costume decorated with embroidery and lace. Over the course of the year, the Tradičné lednické dožinkové slávnosti are among the defining cultural events: they are Lednica’s largest folklore celebration and take place annually. The Ledničanka folklore group also preserves a local custom in Lednica. Before a wedding, wedding songs are sung at the bride’s parents’ home.

History

Lednica Castle was built in the mid-13th century. Its main purpose was to monitor Hungary’s northwestern border. The castle courtyard can be reached through a 10-metre-long tunnel carved into hard limestone. The castle is approximately a 10-minute walk from the car park by the municipal office.
