Hotels in Puchau: Culture, Blue-Dye Printing and Walks

Puchau offers several ways to explore cultural history and craftsmanship: Baroque-Classical architecture, Protestant and Roman Catholic churches, blue-dye printing, and evidence from various eras are presented here as distinct themes alongside one another. This cultural focus is complemented by Lachovec Forest Park, which is associated with walks and cultural performances. The result is a destination where historic sites, traditional craftsmanship and a place in the green coexist.

Culture

One of the prominent buildings is Župný dom. Imrich Marczibányi commissioned the Baroque-Classical building at the end of the 18th century. A different architectural period is represented by the Protestant church on Moravská ulica. It is Neo-Gothic and was built in 1880 on the site of an older church. Inside, there is a Renaissance altar dating from 1643. Here, the construction period, predecessor building and furnishings all belong to the same local attraction.

The Roman Catholic church stands on Námestie slobody. It preserves the old nave of a Renaissance church that was built on the foundations of an older church believed to date from the 13th century. Several historical layers therefore also converge at this site: the preserved nave of the Renaissance church and the even older, probably medieval foundation on which it was built.

Another site of cultural history is Púchovská skala. Several cultures or cultural periods are documented there, spanning from the Palaeolithic to Roman times. Púchovská skala thus complements the architectural history of the churches and Župný dom with archaeological traces from different periods.

Púchovské múzeum is another cultural site. Outside the scheduled visiting hours, a visit is possible by telephone appointment.

Blue-dye printing plays a special role. The Púchov blue-dye printing workshop has been located in Púchov since it was moved from Záriečie in 1898. The grounds of the Púchov blue-dye printing workshop were registered in 1988 as an immovable national cultural monument under the name “Blue-Dye Printing Workshop in Púchov”.

At Modrý Dvor, blue-dye printing craft days are held. Participants can also acquire skills there in craft workshops in the authentic surroundings of a dye works. Meetings at Modrý Dvor take place by prior arrangement.

Nature

Lachovec Forest Park is a popular place for walks. The park is also associated with attending cultural performances at the new Ilonka Amphitheatre. Walks in the forest park and the reference to the amphitheatre therefore appear as two interconnected aspects of the same place, without equating the park itself with a performance.
