Osp Hotels: Climbing, Old Streets and Cultural Heritage
Osp is particularly notable for its climbing area and the trails around the village. The Osp climbing area has 267 routes with difficulty ratings from 3 to 9a. Mišja peč offers 203 climbing routes, with difficulty ratings ranging from 4a/a+ to 9a+/b. Mišja peč is located about 500 metres from the village of Osp. For decades, Osp has attracted the best climbers in the world. Thanks to the favourable climate, climbing at Mišja peč and on the Wall of Osp is possible almost all year round.
Trails
The P3 “Under the Climbing Wall” trail is 15 kilometres long and takes approximately four to five hours on foot. It starts at the car park by the autocamp in Osp. The combination of distance and walking time indicates the extent of this route. The “Krožna pot gradov” castle loop trail also passes through the village. Another connection is described by the K2 route around Tinjan: it leads to Osp and the famous climbing wall with the source of the Osp River.
Nature
Osapska jama Cave, also called Jama Grad, is a horizontal cave with a watercourse in the sinkhole basin of Osp.
Culture
Osp was first mentioned in 1067. The compact old village is characterised by a labyrinth of narrow streets. On the edge of Osp stands the 18th-century Church of Saint Thomas. It is registered as a sacred architectural monument of architectural heritage; the parish church of Saint Thomas was renovated in the late Baroque style.
The area around the fortification at Jama Grad is also part of the village’s history: it is an archaeological site with finds from prehistoric, Roman, medieval and modern times. Thus, in Osp, evidence from various periods stands alongside the old village centre and narrow streets.
