The name Žďárky derives from the historical production of charcoal by charring wood.

History

The first written mention of Žďárky dates from 1415. Hard coal was already mined in the Vilemínin-Důl mine in Žďárky in the 18th century. Hard coal from Žďárky was transported for firing bricks used in the construction of Josefov Fortress.

Culture

The original sandstone bell tower in Mokřiny was completely reconstructed. The bell's suspension, including the wooden and metal elements, as well as the roof of the bell tower, was also restored. The primary school in Žďárky dates from 1877 and is considered worth seeing.

A stylish restaurant is open from spring to autumn in the reconstructed administrative building of the mine.

Nature

The landscape of Žďárky includes forests, meadows, evergreen hills, the settlements of Mokřiny and Závrchy, and Bartoňova hora. The cycle path between Žďárky and Velké Poříčí offers views of the Orlické Mountains and the Jirásek Cottage in Dobrošov and passes by the airfield.
