Hora Svaté Kateřiny is located in the Czech part of the Ore Mountains on the Saxon border. The town was originally a mining settlement.
History
Silver was already being mined on the slopes of Městský vrch before 1520; copper was later mined there as well. The Mikulášská štola was used for silver and copper mining in the Middle Ages.
Culture
Kostel sv. Kateřiny was built in 1611–1612 and remodeled in the Baroque style in 1785. A Pietà statue from 1729 stands in front of Kostel sv. Kateřiny.
Underground Heritage
Guided tours of the Mikulášská štola are regularly offered without prior registration. Approximately 420 m of the Mikulášská štola have currently been restored and are accessible to the public.
Landscape
The caravan camp offers hikers, tourists, and cyclists sanitary facilities including showers. Rozhledna Hláska is a 16 m-high observation tower with a covered glass viewing platform and panoramic views of the Kateřina Valley and Saxony.
