The Brâncuși Monumental Ensemble of Târgu Jiu was created in 1937–1938 to commemorate the people who lost their lives defending the city in the First World War. It extends across two parks connected by the Avenue of Heroes and includes the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, located along the axis. Its design combines abstract sculpture, landscape architecture, engineering, and urban planning.
