Abovce: Hotels, Manor House and Slaná River

Abovce is home to the Abafiovcov Manor House, a single-storey, three-part Neoclassical building with Baroque elements on a rectangular floor plan. It was built between 1800 and 1810.

Location and transport

Abovce lies in the southern part of the Rimavská kotlina basin, in the valley of the Slaná River. Road II/571 runs through the village. Railway line No. 160 between Zvolen and Košice also passes through Abovce, with the Abovce railway stop located on the line. The location can therefore be described in terms of the basin, the river valley and the two specifically named transport connections.

Culture

The Abaffyovcov Manor House complex is located in the centre of Abovce’s built-up area. The Abaffyovcov Manor House is listed under number 932 in the register of national cultural monuments of Slovakia. Religious architecture includes the Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, a single-nave neo-Gothic building with a polygonal termination of the presbytery and an attached tower dating from 1907. An earlier church in Abovce is mentioned in 1745 and was already built in the late Middle Ages. The church façades are articulated by buttresses and pointed-arch windows. The local events calendar also includes several community events organised every year.

Water and fishing

Štrkovisko Abovce is a private fishing pond. At Štrkovisko Abovce, visitors must report to the manager when entering the water area and can purchase a fishing permit there as needed. At Štrkovisko Abovce, the guard handles visitor information and reservations. On the road from Rimavská Seč towards Abovce, a sign and a banner on the right-hand side indicate Štrkovisko Abovce. In Abovce, fishing in the Slaná River is particularly highlighted as an opportunity for tourism.
