Veľké Teriakovce: Mill, Churches and Hotels

The Neoclassical Vodný mlyn mill in Veľké Teriakovce is a mill building dating from 1800. It preserves part of the technical equipment used for grinding flour.

Culture

The Protestant church in Veľké Teriakovce is a single-nave Toleration church in the Baroque-Classical style. Its architectural form includes a segmentally terminated presbytery and an attached tower dating from 1790. The church was rebuilt in the mid-19th century and restored in 1925.

The Protestant church in Malé Teriakovce, which is also attributed to Veľké Teriakovce in the sources, was originally built as a Gothic church in the first half of the 15th century. The church stands in the northeastern part of the village on a slight elevation within the cemetery. This church is part of the Gotická cesta.

A hiking route from Veľké Teriakovce to Maginhrad is listed as 3 km long, with a walking time of 1 hour, 205 m of ascent and 10 m of descent. The distance, time indication and the two elevation figures concretely describe the extent of this route.

A marked yellow hiking route numbered 8489 leads from Veľké Teriakovce in the direction of Teplý Vrch. At the marked Pod Maginhradom junction, you must switch to the green marking to reach the Maginhrad lookout tower. Both marking colours are therefore mentioned at this point for route guidance.

Traditions

Mitrovanie, also called valaské hody or sviatok ovčiarov, is an old custom marking the end of the shepherding season. The event took place on 18 October 2025 at Salaš pod Maginhradom in Veľké Teriakovce for the twelfth time.

The Mitrovanie programme includes demonstrations of sheep shearing, the preparation of Žinčica, the production of cheese, Parenica and Bryndza, as well as the processing of sheep's wool. The programme therefore focuses both on working with the animals and on traditional products and the use of sheep's wool.
