Klieština: History and Mountain Hiking in the Javorníky Mountains

Historical traditions, customs and landscape exist side by side in Klieština.

Culture

Klieština was first mentioned in 1408 under the name Klystyna. From 1439, Klieština belonged to the villages under the authority of Považská Bystrica Castle. In earlier times, Klieština was a feudal estate village. Basket weaving was also an important historic craft in Klieština. Local tradition traces the name Klieština to the repeated clearing of thorny undergrowth that kept growing back. The name Klystyna belongs to the earliest recorded mention, while the later feudal affiliation describes a different period in the history of the locality.

A distinctive structure is Klieština’s wooden log-built bell tower. It was erected in 1916 and stands on a square stone foundation. In the past, the ringing of the bell tower helped the inhabitants of Klieština keep track of time. This structure therefore combines visible village history with an earlier everyday function for the local population.

Traditional Easter customs in Klieština include pouring water over young women, which is supposed to bring them a fresh and joyful year. Traditional Christmas customs include tying straw to trees, which is supposed to bring health and a rich harvest.

Nature

Klieština lies in the Javorníky Mountains and offers diverse opportunities for mountain hiking. The Radotina stream flows through Klieština. The Radotina is a right-bank tributary of the Marikovský potok. Meadows and pastures are the predominant agricultural areas in Klieština, while more than 26% of the area consists of forests. Deer, roe deer, wild boar, hares, martens and squirrels can be found in Klieština. Watercourses, open agricultural areas, forests and wildlife thus exist side by side as different components of the locality.

These fields make differences between offers visible. Compare the stated conditions for the desired length of stay and check which services are actually included. Availability, the final price and cancellation rules should always be checked directly with the respective offer. For a hotel offer, you can check the exact location, the stated accommodation type and the occupancy separately. Also pay attention to whether included services are expressly listed and which price components make up the final price. The booking and cancellation conditions should likewise be clearly stated on the respective offer page. When comparing several offers, using the same checkpoints helps record differences objectively and compare your own length of stay with the respective conditions. The specific fields stated for each individual offer remain decisive; transferring them generally to other offers is not appropriate. In addition, checking the occupancy stated for the travel group, any possible minimum stays and the period of validity of the price can help compare the information consistently. In each case, what matters is the specific status of the offer page at the time of checking and the selected length of stay.
