Zádor: Hotels between River Floodplains and Church History
Zádor lies on the floodplain of the Blh River in the southern part of the Rimavská kotlina Basin.
Landscape
The unforested municipal area of Zádor comprises flat and hilly areas with pronounced terraces. The underlying geology consists of marl, claystone and sandstone, covered by river deposits. The landscape therefore includes both different landforms and various geological layers. Zádor also lies within the protection zone of the healing waters of the Číž spa.
The landscape is therefore not characterized by a single type of terrain: in addition to the river floodplain and the unforested municipal area, it includes both flat and hilly sections. The terraces, different rocks and river deposits each form part of the description of the same municipal area. Its location within the protection zone of the healing waters of the Číž spa adds another stated geographical reference to this classification.
History
The first written mention of Zádor dates from 1372. Historical names included Zadorhaza (1372), Zádorčie (1920), Zádor, and Zádorháza, the Hungarian name (1927). Zádor was initially owned by the Széchy and Koháry families and later belonged to the Coburg family. In 1566, the Turks plundered and devastated Zádor. At the same time, they forced the municipality to pay tributes and supply food and wood. The former manor house of the Szakáll family is also considered noteworthy in Zádor.
The history of the locality can therefore be viewed on several levels: the written forms of its name date back to the 14th century, while the succession of ownership by the Széchy, Koháry and Coburg families describes a later development. The events of 1566 form a separate section between these historical details and the information about the buildings.
Reformed Church
A Reformed congregation already existed in Zádor in the 1560s and was affiliated with the congregation in Rimavská Seč. The first Reformed church in Zádor was built in 1882 and, because of its poor condition, was used only until 1945. Construction of the new Reformed church in Zádor lasted from 1943 to 1968. The Reformed church in Zádor belongs to the Rimavská Seč church congregation and the Gemer Reformed Seniorate. It is Zádor’s oldest monument and dates from 1968.
